Fables are short, short literary narratives, usually in verse, that always end with a teaching or moral message with which we can educate children in values.
Fables are a good way to entertain and educate children. The fable 'the fox and the grapes' teaches children that many times to get what we want we have to face difficulties and that we should not lose interest because of them.
On an autumn morning, while a fox was resting under a grape plantation, saw some beautiful bunches of grapes already ripe, in front of your eyes. Eager to eat something refreshing and different from what she was used to, the fox got up, rolled up her sleeves and went to work to eat the grapes.
What the fox did not know is that the bunches of grapes were much taller than she imagined. So he looked for a means to reach them. He jumped, he jumped, but his fingers couldn't even touch them.
There were many grapes, but the fox could not reach them. He ran and jumped again, but the jump fell short. Still, the fox did not give up. He ran again and jumped again and nothing. Grapes they seemed to be getting higher and farther.
Tired from the effort and feeling unable to reach the grapes, the fox was convinced that it was useless to repeat the attempt. The grapes were too high and the fox felt deep frustration. Exhausted and resigned, the fox decided to give up the grapes.
When the fox was about to return to the forest, she realized that a bird that was flying there had observed the whole scene and felt embarrassed. Thinking that she had played a ridiculous role to get to the grapes, the fox turned to the bird and said:
- I would have managed to reach the grapes if they had been ripe. I was wrong at first thinking that they were ripe but when I realized that they were still green, I preferred to give up on reaching them. Green grapes are not a good food for a palate as refined as mine.
And so it was, the fox continued on her way, trying to convince herself that it was not because of her lack of effort that she had not eaten those delicious grapes. And yes because they were green.
Moral: If there is something that really interests you, do not give up. Push yourself and persevere until you succeed.
